Breast Cancer Awareness Month
SUPPORT PINK RIBBON MONTH
Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) takes place every October and is a important time to highlight why research in this area is so crucial.
The aim of the BCAM is to shine a light on the devastating impact breast cancer has on thousands of Australians each day. Over 20,000 Australians will be diagnosed with the disease this year alone which equates to 57 Australians every day.
See below the few different ways to show your support to the cause and raise awareness on Breast Cancer.
Host a Pink Ribbon Breakfast
Gather your friends and family to help raise awareness. You can also register your event to raise funds to help the cause.
Give Up an Everyday Item!
Get your friends involved & think of an everyday item you can’t go without and give it up for a month.
Game Day!
If you love games and gaming gather your crew and play a match online or in-person to support the cause.

A CONVERSATION COULD CHANGE A LIFE
We’re helping to raise funds for RU OK? Day on Thursday, September 14th.
R U OK? is about reaching out to let the people you care about know you're here, to really hear them.
Asking R U OK? is the first step, but you also need to genuinely listen to what comes next. By taking the time for a conversation and genuinely listening with an open mind, we can all help the people in our world feel supported and connected.
Let the people in your world know you’re here, to really hear, because a conversation could change a life.

1. ASK R U OK?
Be relaxed, friendly and concerned in your approach.
Help them open up by asking questions like "How are you going?" or "What’s been happening?"
If they don’t want to talk, don’t criticise them.
Tell them you’re still concerned about changes in their behaviour and you care about them.
Avoid a confrontation.
You could say: “Please call me if you ever want to chat” or “Is there someone else you’d rather talk to?”
2. LISTEN
Take what they say seriously and don't interrupt or rush the conversation. If they need time to think, sit patiently with the silence.
Don’t judge their experiences or reactions but acknowledge that things seem tough for them.
Encourage them to explain: "How are you feeling about that?" or "How long have you felt that way?"
Show that you've listened by repeating back what you’ve heard (in your own words) and ask if you have understood them properly.
3. ENCOURAGE ACTION
Ask: “What have you done in the past to manage similar situations?”
Ask: “How would you like me to support you?"
Ask: “What’s something you can do for yourself right now? Something that’s enjoyable or relaxing?”
If they've been feeling really down for more than 2 weeks, encourage them to see a health professional.
4. CHECK IN
Set a reminder in your diary to call them in a couple of weeks. If they're really struggling, follow up with them sooner.
Ask if they've found a better way to manage the situation. If they haven't done anything, don't judge them. They might just need someone to listen to them for the moment.
Stay in touch and be there for them. Genuine care and concern can make a real difference.

KUNG FU DEMONSTRATION
Double Dragon Academy will be showcasing their martial art skills at 12pm & 1pm.
Double Dragon Budokan is led by Grand Master Chan Cheuk Wah (Siba) who has cultivated martial arts for more than 55 years. Honoring the origins of the style founded by Siba's father, Grand Master Chan Keng Wan.
Double Dragon Academy offers Kung Fu classes to gain self confidence, improve coordination, increase fitness, learn self-defence and be part of a martial arts family. Classes are offered to children from 5 to 15 years of age and Adults of any age.
Shanshan Dance Studio will be performing a Classical Chinese Dance to celebrate Lunar New Year at 11am next to Burwood Mobile.
