Woolworths' Chocolate Web Cake

Inspired by the spider's artful talent, this mud-cake hack turns a Woolies fan favourite into a spooky chocolate celebration.

INGREDIENTS

300g dark chocolate, finely chopped

3/4 cup thickened cream

15g black food colour gel

1200g Woolworths chocolate mud cakes

400g tub chocolate fudge frosting

5 white marshmallows

plastic spiders (to decorate)

DIRECTIONS

Step 1

Place chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Place cream in a small saucepan and stir over low heat for 5 minutes or until just beginning to simmer. Do not boil. Remove from heat, pour over chocolate and allow to stand for 3 minutes before stirring gently until melted and combined. Add enough black food colour gel to reach the desired colour. Place in the fridge to chill, stirring occasionally until cold and thick.

Step 2

Place one cake on a serving plate, icing side up. Spread frosting over the top of the cake. Place the second cake on top, icing side down. Push down gently to secure. Spread cooled chocolate ganache over the top and side of the cake to cover. Stand for 10 minutes to set.

Step 3

Meanwhile, place marshmallows on a microwave-safe plate—microwave on high in 15-second bursts or until beginning to melt. Stand for 30 seconds, then use 2 small forks to stretch marshmallows to make long thin strands. Layer the strands over and around the cake to resemble spider webs. To serve, decorate with spiders.
